Invest in Northland

New Zealand is currently ranked in second best place in the world to do business according to the World Bank (2009 survey of 181 countries) and consistently ranks in the top ten as the best place to live – and we agree!

New Zealand's stable political system guarantees a safe environment for businesses and makes New Zealand the most peaceful country in the world, according to Global Peace Index 2009.  This has made New Zealand a key investment destination for both individual and corporate investors in a wide range of sectors - enjoying continued success and growth.

The uniquely beautiful sub-tropical Northland offers excellent investment opportunities for joint venture, partnership, relocation or acquisition.  Sectors with current investment opportunities include aquaculture, tourism, marine, the wood industry, and the renewable energy sector.

Local business, agencies, councils and Iwi (New Zealand’s indigenous people) work together to welcome investors to the region, and to help ensure your venture is both enjoyable and successful.

KEA

More than 750,000 New Zealanders live overseas, which is 16% of New Zealand’s population and 24% of all highly skilled New Zealanders - the highest proportion of any OECD country. This is a unique competitive advantage for New Zealand should we choose to leverage this opportunity. Kea – New Zealand’s global talent network – exists to help, to connect with and leverage the knowledge and contacts of these talented New Zealanders around the world.

Kea's mission is to connect New Zealand with its large global talent community - now at 25,000 members, with membership consistently growing at over 20% per year - and contribute to the growth, development, and future prosperity of New Zealand by facilitating the sharing of knowledge, contacts and opportunities around the world.

Kea’s objectives are to:

  • Develop an effective communication and information channel targeted at international talent with a social, economic, or professional interest in New Zealand.
  • Identify activities and opportunities originating in New Zealand that will encourage global talent to establish and maintain stronger links with the country.
  • Develop a growing network of self-funding, self-administering Kea groups in areas of economic and strategic importance to New Zealand.
  • Provide New Zealand-based organisations and talent with a vehicle for establishing commercial or professional contacts in global markets.

Pass It On

The ‘Pass It On’ campaign has been launched by Kea. This web-based initiative aims to encourage the kiwi’s abroad to talk to their colleagues and friends about not only the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2011 but also impart stories as to what is ‘cool, exciting and desirable’ about New Zealand to a global audience.
