Northland's goals are:

As the First Region of New Zealand, Northland will officially welcome the world to Aotearoa and showcase both culturally and scenically the best of our region, providing the ultimate leisure destination for visitors.

As a region passionate about Rugby, to ensure our facilities, infrastructure and professionalism deliver ‘a platform for superb Rugby.’

For the whole Northland community to feel a responsibility towards welcoming visitors during Rugby World Cup 2011 – displaying true ‘Manaakitanga’ in the sharing of exceptional hospitality.

For communities throughout Northland to come together, enjoy and be involved in Rugby World Cup 2011 celebrations - a festival of 4 million.

For Rugby World Cup 2011 to leave a lasting legacy by being a springboard for introducing environmentally sustainable best practices to infrastructure and activities throughout the region.

A key objective is also to maximize the economic benefit to the Northland region from Rugby World Cup 2011 by:

  • Having teams based in Northland
  • Having games played in Northland
  • Attracting visitors to Northland throughout the Tournament

Northland is committed to assisting in any way we can to the success of Rugby World Cup 2011 and is determined to host teams and matches in the region not only because of the intangible benefits to the community of being part of such a nationwide celebration, but also as we believe there are tangible benefits it can bring to our communities.

As a region we are therefore focusing as much on the surrounding ‘Festival of Rugby’ as we are on the match and team hosting - although we are well aware that the three go hand in hand.
